Ski Resort Car Transport

Resort delivery is a mountain access problem: narrow roads, chain controls, height-limited parking. Why valley meeting points are normal and how to plan one.
Car Motorcycle

Shipping a vehicle to or from a ski resort is a mountain access problem wearing winter clothing. The transport itself is ordinary. The last few miles are not.

Resort roads climb, narrow, and switchback. Many have chain requirements during storms. Resort parking is frequently structured, height-limited, or full. A full-size multi-car transporter is poorly suited to all of that, which is why resort deliveries so often end at a meeting point rather than at the door.

Why Resort Access Is Difficult

Mountain roads are narrow and steep. A loaded transporter needs room to manoeuvre and gradient it can safely handle loaded.

Chain controls during storms. Some routes require chains, which slows or stops larger vehicles.

Structured parking has height limits. Resort garages routinely cannot accommodate a transporter at all.

Snowbanks narrow everything. Ploughed roads are narrower than their summer width, sometimes substantially.

Turning space is scarce. A transporter needs somewhere to turn around, which mountain villages rarely offer.

How These Moves Actually Work

Delivery to a valley town rather than the resort. The most common arrangement. A larger town below the resort usually has room and clear access.

A meeting point at a cleared car park. Agreed in advance, with space for the trailer to stand and unload safely.

Timing around storms. Resort access is the first thing lost in a storm and among the last restored.

Shorter final leg by you. Driving the last stretch yourself is normal and usually the practical answer.

Off-peak scheduling. Resort areas are congested at weekends and during holiday weeks. Midweek deliveries are markedly easier.

Planning a Resort Move

  1. Ask about access before booking. Describe the destination honestly, including the road and the parking.
  2. Identify a valley alternative. Have a fallback location in mind before the driver is en route.
  3. Avoid peak weekends and holiday weeks. Congestion compounds every other constraint.
  4. Allow for weather. Mountain corridors are the most storm-affected routes in the country.
  5. Prepare for cold at the vehicle end. Battery in particular, since resort parking is usually outdoors and unheated.
  6. Confirm who receives it. Ski trips mean people are on the mountain rather than waiting at a car park.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you deliver directly to a ski resort?
Sometimes, depending on the resort and conditions. Frequently the practical answer is a nearby town or an agreed cleared meeting point.

Is winter the only difficult season?
It is the hardest, but mountain access is constrained year-round by road width and turning space.

Should I use enclosed transport?
For a high-value vehicle heading into a salted mountain environment, it is worth considering. For an ordinary vehicle open transport is fine.

What if a storm closes the pass?
The carrier waits or reroutes, and your window shifts. Mountain routes carry the highest delay risk of any lane.

Can I meet the driver partway?
Yes, and on resort deliveries it is often the best arrangement. Agree the location in advance rather than improvising.

Why Ship With Tempus Logix

Tempus Logix is a licensed and bonded auto transport broker, USDOT #3117533 and MC #86120, and BBB accredited. Every carrier we assign is vetted and its insurance verified before a vehicle is collected, and vehicle owners carry a zero deductible on covered damage.

Winter shipping asks for realistic scheduling more than anything else. Storms close routes and force detours, so we plan around weather windows rather than promising dates the road may not allow, and we tell you plainly when a schedule is optimistic.
