Our latest move involved transporting a 2025 Polaris RZR XP4 1000 from Chino Valley, AZ to New Palestine, IN through enclosed trailer transportation services. It was transported over 1704 miles for $2,200.00, which cost $1.29 per mile.
Transporting an off-road SxS is not the same as transporting an ordinary car due to the fact that a RZR is not made or licensed to drive up the ramps of a trailer like a regular vehicle would do.
The Route
The 1,704-mile route from Chino Valley to New Palestine goes east across the country starting from north-central Arizona to central Indiana. Transport companies normally depart from Chino Valley, located in Prescott, proceeding east on I-40 through Flagstaff, Albuquerque, and Amarillo.
Afterwards, the route continues through Oklahoma City then connects to I-44 all the way to St. Louis. Finally, the route ends at I-70 heading east through Indianapolis, where New Palestine is located to the southeast of the city.
Why a UTV Ships Differently Than a Car
Unlike cars, a RZR XP4 does not come equipped with legal components such as a license plate, and in addition to not having the required DOT lighting, it is not driven onto a ramp like a car would. Side-by-sides are usually towed using a winch or towed up to the ramp by low-speed drive if the situation allows for it, as these are designed for off-road conditions as opposed to being ramp-friendly.
As far as tying down a UTV is concerned, the process is different as compared to tying down a car. Carriers usually tie down a UTV by attaching themselves directly to the frame of the vehicle as opposed to using wheel straps on its wheels as the suspension of a RZR is quite loose as compared to a car’s.
Extra Items Riding Along
In addition to the RZR, there was also a 50-pound box with tools in the same shipment. It is normal practice to ship some tools together with a car, especially for off-road cars, in case the owner needed some spare parts or even tie-downs or tools for repairs.
It is always asked from carriers not to overload any additional load, as it makes the vehicle unstable and harder to load. Fifty pounds is a small load and does not influence in any way the loading of the RZR onto the truck or its condition on the truck.
Enclosed Transport
This particular 2025 model, which has not had any trail time, is definitely one of the deliveries where enclosed transport will be justified. The reason for this is that enclosed trailers will shield your UTV from all kinds of road debris, rain, and grime which may gather over a distance of 1,700+ miles on an open trailer.
The point here is that for such a vehicle, the plastics and paint are much better protected prior to the first trail compared to after that.
