Types of Trailers Used for Car Shipping

Peak Season Car Shipping

Peak season is arithmetic, not policy. Why June through August runs tight, how much lead time to allow, and which corridors run cheap while the rest peak.
Car Motorcycle

Peak season is not a pricing policy. It is arithmetic. More people want to move vehicles between June and August than carriers have space to move, and everything else follows from that.

School years end, families relocate, students move in both directions, and leases turn over. All of it lands in the same three months, competing for trailer space that does not expand to meet it.

Understanding that changes how you book. In peak season lead time is worth more than negotiation.

Why June Through August Is Tight

Family moves cluster around the school calendar. Parents move between school years rather than mid-term, which concentrates demand into a narrow window.

Student traffic runs twice. Out in May and June, back in a hard compressed spike through late August.

Carriers take vacation too. Drivers and owner-operators schedule their own time off in summer, so available capacity dips exactly as bookings surge.

Popular corridors fill first. High-volume lanes between major metros absorb demand fastest, which is counterintuitive but consistent.

Enclosed capacity gets squeezed hardest. Collector and show season overlaps the moving season, and there were fewer enclosed trailers to begin with.

Booking Against the Peak

Two to three weeks of lead time on a general lane. This is the single most effective thing you can do.

Four weeks or more for enclosed transport in July.

Avoid the last ten days of August if you have any choice. It is the tightest window of the year on student corridors.

Be flexible on collection, firm on delivery. A wide pickup window gets filled fast, and that is what protects your delivery expectation.

Treat an unusually low quote with suspicion. A load listed below the market rate does not get accepted, and you lose the week it sat unassigned.

Ask about snowbird lanes if your route is north-south. Florida, Arizona, and Texas corridors run quiet in summer and price accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

When exactly is peak season?
June through August on general corridors, with a sharp secondary spike in the last two weeks of August for student moves.

Is July the worst month to ship?
Usually, yes. Demand is at its highest while carrier availability dips for driver vacation time.

Does booking early actually lower the rate?
It gives you a realistic rate and a filled slot. Late bookings in peak season pay more because they compete for whatever capacity is left.

Are any routes cheap in summer?
Yes. Snowbird corridors into Florida, Arizona, and Texas run at their annual low while general lanes peak.

Can I still ship with a week of notice in July?
Often, but with less control over timing and price. Flexibility on the collection window matters enormously at that notice.

Why Ship With Tempus Logix

Tempus Logix is a licensed and bonded auto transport broker, USDOT #3117533 and MC #86120, and BBB accredited. Every carrier we assign is vetted and its insurance verified before a vehicle is collected, and vehicle owners carry a zero deductible on covered damage.

Summer asks for lead time more than anything else. June through August is the busiest stretch of the year, so we tell you plainly when a date is tight and what booking earlier would buy you, rather than accepting a booking we cannot serve well.
