A returning customer contacted Tempus Logix on January 6th regarding the transport of a 2020 BMW M4 Coupe from Milwaukie, Oregon, to Katy, Texas. This relocation required more than just a regular open transport. The outstanding design for sports performance, not to mention price, of the BMW M4 Coupe required an enclosed transport service for its 2,200-mile journey through the Southwest.

The booking process was not a very time-consuming process at all. The client gave us the specs of the vehicle and the first available date was listed as January 8th. In just four days, we were able to locate a qualified carrier with a hard-sided, enclosed trailer with space for two vehicles.

Hard-Sided Protection for Performance Vehicles

The hard-sided enclosed trailers are made up of steel and aluminum and enclose the sides of a trailer completely, offering a secured environment to the vehicle. This promotes prolonged exposure to varying conditions when on the road and protects the vehicle from debris and environmental factors, which can easily cause damage to the vehicle, unlike in enclosed trailers. The two-car arrangement provided enough room for the BMW when being transported.

The fact that the ground clearance in the design of the M4 car was low made the specialized loading system in the enclosed trailer necessary in the process. The loading system in an enclosed trailer is always composed of hydraulic systems and ramps which are almost touching the ground. How We Transported an Inoperable Nissan Pathfinder from California to Texas

The customer needed to relocate his old Nissan Pathfinder from Roseville, California to Dallas, Texas. However, there was a hitch. The SUV would not start.

During the preceding week of Christmas, he tried contacting four to five transport companies. The majority gave him the same reply. “The drivers want to be at home during Christmas,” most of them said. “Finding a person to transport a non-running car during that time of the year would be difficult.” We used his information and provided a competitive price for him. In addition, we told him right up front that getting a driver before the New Year would prove to be difficult. He booked with us anyway on December 29th. It required winch loading as it did not have the ability to move on its own power.

Finding a Driver During the Holidays

The distance from Roseville, CA, to Dallas, Texas, is about 1,700 miles. That’s not the issue, though. Carriers make this trip quite frequently, using primarily the I-40 and I-20 highways. California itself transports hundreds of vehicles each day. Los Angeles alone has an enormous flow of port goods, including imported autos bound for the nation’s car dealerships across multiple time zones. Finding trucks to go east therefore is not the problem.

But this is different. Holiday time and a car that won’t start. We assigned carrier on January 5th. The driver operates a 9-car open haul rig with electric winch gear. Those winches will pull 8,000 to 12,000 pounds of weight.

This is exactly how restoration projects are. It is hard to deliver, and many rejected it. The customer has tons of components that he’s been stockpiling. It’s genuine original components: trims, brackets, hardware. The kind that won’t be found in any hardware catalog. It took him so much time to move around a 193x60x25-inch pallet weighing 700 pounds that contained just the chassis. Why This Job Wasn’t Straightforward

Car transport is car transport, right? Roll it on, buckle it up, deliver it. It’s done. Restoration projects are a whole different ball game.

A chassis does not have a vehicle-like structure. No bodywork for added rigidity. No doors. No roof. Only the chassis with things attached to it.
